2. If you are underage, you are on your honor to refrain from drinking. Also, no drinking, smoking or drugs in your respective housing, no matter what your age.
3. Some individuals involved with the conference have made/are making admirable recoveries from substance abuse. Please be sensitive in your comments (ie no “I was so wasted last night.”)
4. Ask questions and share your opinions! You have a lot to learn, AND a lot to offer.
5. ALWAYS travel in at least pairs. DC is a wonderful city, but it has its dangerous sports. We’re instituting the “NO CKP Member Left Behind Act” for the duration of the conference.
6. If at any time you feel unsafe, TAKE A CAB. Your safety is paramount.
TRAVEL FROM REAGAN NATIONAL AIRPORT***CKNU’s Nikki Goldwater and Jen Daniels will meet people at the metro to travel to the hotel. Since some of you are flying solo, we recommend meeting at this location. Terminal B entrance to Metro (make sure you are at Terminal B and not Terminal C) at 2:30 PM. Just look for the CKP sign.
From Reagan National Airport to Union Station:
1. Metro is located near Gate B.
2. You will need to purchase a $5 metro card prior to passing the turnstile.
3. Take YELLOW LINE toward Mt. Vernon Square.
4. Get off metro at Gallery Place/Chinatown stop.
5. Transfer to RED LINE toward Silver Spring.
6. Get off metro at Union Station.
From Union Station to Holiday Inn on the Hill:
Union Station is located just 3 blocks from the Holiday Inn on The Hill.
Exit the station and walk toward the US Capitol, following the first small section of the semi-circle that is adjacent to the station.
Turn right onto E Street, NW.
After one block, you will cross North Capitol Street. The Capitol dome will be clearly visible to your left.
Continue on E Street for one block, and then turn left onto New Jersey Avenue, NW.
The Holiday Inn on The Hill is in the first block, on your left.
This walk is slightly downhill and quite feasible if you are using wheeled luggage.
CKP’s Becky Locker will be available at the Holiday Inn to assist you with check-in as well as to answer any questions. Everyone is expected to be the Gonzaga College High School at 4:00 PM.
