President's Service Honor Roll Names 16 Campus Kitchen Universities

The President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll recognized 16 universities with Campus Kitchens last week as part of an elite group of campuses displaying student commitment to service activities.
The Honor Roll, first published in 2006, annually recognizes institutions for: scope and innovation of service projects, percentage of student participation in service activities, incentives for service, and academic service-learning courses.
The list named Augsburg College, where Campus Kitchen operations began in 2003, as one of six top Presidential Awardees. While the college conducts dozens of service days and service-learning courses, the Campus Kitchen stands as a consistent pillar for volunteerism, drawing in over 300 volunteers a year to serve 2,000 meals per month.Innovation helps the Campus Kitchen at Augsburg College extend the scope of its service in the Minneapolis community. Campus Kitchen leaders plan this summer to add stalls to their community farmers markets – on campus and off – as well as more market locations.
Additionally, Campus Kitchen Coordinator Brian Noy runs a community garden which student leaders use as a teaching space for children. Youth then follow their food from the garden to the kitchen for healthy cooking lessons.

Other universities with Campus Kitchens also earned top honors in the Honor Roll with Distinction and Honor Roll categories.
